RUTHERFORD SHINES IN THE VALLEY OF THE SUN

Corona, CA- The second round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series launched out of the gate last Saturday night in Phoenix, AZ.  A sold out crowd witnessed more than half a dozen Race Tech supported riders advance through the afternoon timed-qualifying sessions into the night program.

 

            One rider noticeably missing from the lineup was Rockwell/FirePoliceMX.com/Race Tech Lites class rider #758 Jason Potter.  Potter suffered a cracked clavicle during the week prior to Phoenix and will sit out until Seattle.  Everyone at Race Tech would like to wish Jason a speedy recovery.

 

            Coming off a solid 13th place finish at the Anaheim opener, Teddy Maier put his HyperX backed Race Tech Honda into the main event during the first heat race of the evening. 

 

            In the second heat of the evening, Bruce Rutherford charged from behind to put his Rockwell/FirePoliceMX.com/Race Tech bike directly into the main event after a fierce 3 way battle for the position.  Rutherford proved that his tough luck at A1 was simply a bad night and showed he has what it takes to run up front with the best SX Lites riders in the world.

 

            During the main event, Rutherford suffered from a poor start; while Maier ended up on the ground in the first turn.  Both riders would start out 19th and 20th and begin to charge to the front through an extremely competitive Lites field.  When the checkered flag flew, Rutherford and Maier ended their race long battle in 13th and 15th respectively. 

 

            After 2 rounds, Teddy Maier sits just 3 points out of the top 10 in the series; while Rutherford looks to make up ground after missing the main at the Anaheim opener.  Rutherford currently sits 18th in the series standings.

 

            Also in action over the weekend was Race Tech’s Arenacross Ace; Kurt McCabe.  Kurt took his StormLakeHonda.com/Race Tech supported ride to a sweep of the Lites class at the Sears Center Arenacross in Chicago, Illinois.  He followed up his great rides in the Lites class with a 5th and a 2nd in the 450 division.

 

            Nolan Dickinson riding for 4-PR Performance, a local Race Tech Center to the Chicagoland area took a win in the 65 class and a 2nd place in the 85 class at the Arenacross as well.

 

            Race Tech will look forward to round 3 of the AMA Supercross Series this weekend inside the famed Dodger Stadium.  Joining the Race Tech team is Novik Gloves supported 450cc Class Privateer #143 Michael Horban.  Horban will be spending the week testing with the Race Tech crew and will debut for the Race Tech crew at Los Angeles this weekend.
