2013- CRF250L SHOCK SPRING INSTALLATION

YOU MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TOOL!!!

This one requires a spring compressor TSSC 02 or equivalent. The reason is when you back off on the spring collars they stop instead of coming off the body end. This requires removal of the shaft clevis.

1-The clevis is threaded onto the end of the shock shaft. There is a jam nut underneath. The problem is the spring must be compressed to expose the jam nut. The only good way of doing this is with a spring compressor.

This is a TSSC 02 Spring Compressor
Begin by backing off the preload collars as much as possible to relieve as much tension on the spring as possible.
The shock shown is not from a CRF250L but you get the idea. This tool sits on the spring and pulls up on the clevis. As you tighten the tool a gap will open up. You will need to push down on the bumper to expose the nut. When you can, insert an open end wrench onto the nut. The clevis must be held from rotating. Loosen the jam nut.
Remove the shock from the tool and continue unthreading the clevis.

2- Remove the retaining plate.
This pic is a bit deceiving as it looks as if the spring has tons of room to get the clevis off. This is not the case.

3- Remove the stock collar. Again, the pic is not right.

4-Sorry I don't have a picture of the adapter collars installed yet. The assembly order starting from the body end is:
SPSC B5552N
SPSC B5855N These two sizing collars are stacked on top of each other
Shock Spring SESP 90225 Series
SPSC P575519 (make sure you measure the uncompressed length of the spring before installation)
Stock Collar
Stock Retaining Plate

5-Use the Spring Compressor Tool and reinstall the stock Clevis. Use High Strength Threadlock

6-Set your preload and reinstall on the bike.

Strongly suggest you check out a complete G3-S Custom Shock for this bike. The performance is impressive and it is not much more money than a Spring, Gold Valve and a rebuild.
